the guide ✎

How Scribblespace works.

Scribblespace is a shared notebook. You write scribbles, which are pages of plain Markdown with images, drawings and links. Scribbles live in notebooks, and notebooks belong to a workspace, which is your team. Everything is saved on your device first, so it works offline, and it syncs to everyone else the moment you’re connected.

01 · The basics

Workspaces, notebooks and scribbles

Three pieces, one inside the other. Once you know them, the rest of the app follows.

Workspace
Your team: its people, their roles and its notebooks. You can belong to several and switch between them from the sidebar.
Notebook
A collection of scribbles that syncs as one, images included, so the whole notebook is on your device and readable offline.
Scribble
One page. Plain Markdown underneath, with images, drawings, diagrams and links to other scribbles on top.
Daily Notes
A notebook for each day’s jottings. Alt D opens today’s note and reopens the same one all day.
Trash
Deleted scribbles wait here with their content intact until you restore them.

02 · Writing

Writing a scribble

Type, and it’s formatted as you go. Press / anywhere for everything else.

The editor writes Markdown, but you never have to see it. Start a line with # for a heading, - for a list, [] for a to-do or > for a quote, and the formatting appears as you type. The usual shortcuts work too: Ctrl B for bold, Ctrl I for italic, Ctrl Shift K for a link.

Type / to open the block menu, then keep typing to filter it.

  • Headings & listsThree heading sizes, bulleted and numbered lists, quotes and dividers.
  • To-dosChecklists you tick off with a click or a shortcut.
  • CodeSyntax highlighting for dozens of languages.
  • TablesRows and columns, edited like a spreadsheet.
  • ImagesPaste, drop or upload. Kept on your device for offline reading.
  • DrawingsHand-drawn sketches whose shapes stay editable.
  • DiagramsFlowcharts and sequence diagrams written in Mermaid.
  • Dates & mentionsToday’s date in a keystroke, links to any scribble.

03 · Linking

Linking your thinking

Type @ to mention another scribble. The link follows it wherever it goes.

A mention points at the scribble itself, not its title, so renaming or moving it never breaks a link. Hover over a mention and press Ctrl Alt V to open it in a split beside the page you’re on.

Every scribble has its own address. Copy its link to send to a teammate, or paste it into a chat with your agent and ask about it.

05 · Writing together

Writing together

Everyone writes in the same page at once, each with their own pen.

Open a scribble a teammate is in and you’ll see who’s there, where their cursor is and what they’re typing, as they type it. Nobody waits for anybody, and nobody saves.

A shared notebook page: Ana, Ben, Chloé and Dev edit it at the same time. Their colored cursors type side by side, a task gets ticked off, a date is highlighted with a note in the margin, and Ben keeps writing offline until his edits merge when he reconnects.

Roles

Everyone in a workspace has one role, and it applies to every notebook in it.

Invitations

An invitation is a single-use link for one email address, and it expires after seven days. You send it yourself, however you like.

Removing someone

Removing someone takes away every notebook in the workspace at once, even on a device they already have open.

Activity

Owners and admins can see the latest 100 changes to members, roles, invitations and settings.

06 · Sharing

Sharing a single scribble

Notebooks are shared with the whole workspace. A scribble can be shared more narrowly, or more widely.

Workspace
The default. Everyone in the workspace can open it with their usual role, plus anyone you add.
Only you and people you add
Private. Other members can’t open it, admins included. The people you add sign in to read it.
Anyone with the link
Public. Anyone with the link can read it without an account, and people you add as editors can also edit. Scribbles it mentions stay private.

Add someone by the email address of their Scribblespace account, then send them the link. Owners, admins and editors can change who has access.

07 · Offline & sync

Offline first, always in sync

Lose the signal mid-sentence and keep writing. Nothing is lost, even if you close the app.

  1. You write

Every change is saved on your device first. Writing never waits for the internet.

  2. It travels

When you’re online, the change goes to Scribblespace over an encrypted connection and is stored safely before it counts as sent.

  3. Everyone lines up

Your other devices and your teammates get it in moments. A device that was offline catches up on just what it missed.

When two people change the same sentence, or one of them was offline, both edits land, letter by letter, and every device ends up with the same page. Drawings merge the same way. There are never “conflicted copy” files. Scribblespace can’t judge whether two rewrites made at the same moment read well together, so give the page a quick look after a busy session.

Try it below: take one device offline, edit both, then bring it back.

Both devices are online. Type in either one.

08 · Your data

Your data, your way

Plain Markdown underneath, and a complete backup whenever you want one.

  • Export or copy a scribble as Markdown, ready for any editor.
  • Back up a notebook: every scribble, image and editable drawing in one download.
  • Import Markdown files or a backup with Ctrl O.
  • Restore from Trash: deleting a scribble keeps its content.

Notes are encrypted on their way between your devices and Scribblespace, and a notebook is only open to its workspace. They aren’t end-to-end encrypted, so think twice before storing very sensitive material. The privacy policy has the details.

Scribblespace is in early access. Keep your own backup of anything important.

09 · Apps

On the screens you use

Each device keeps its own copy of your notebooks, and your theme follows you to all of them.

Bring your agents

Claude and Codex can read your scribbles, look at their images and follow their links.

Create a read-only key in Settings, install the shared skill, and ask about any scribble by pasting its link. Write keys let your own scripts create and edit scribbles through the same live sync as the app.
