Let Claude or Codex read your notebooks
Claude and Codex can read your scribbles, look at their images and follow their links through one shared skill. Install it once, give it a read-only key, and ask about any scribble by pasting its link.
- Create an API key with Read only access for the workspace you want the agent to read.
- Install the skill with the commands in the agent guide. They save one copy in
~/.agents/skills/scribblespaceand link it into Claude’s and Codex’s skill folders,~/.claude/skillsand~/.codex/skills. - Save the key in
~/.config/scribblespace/credentials.jsonas{"endpoint": "https://api.scribblespace.app", "apiKey": "ss_…"}and make the file readable only by you (mode0600). Or setSCRIBBLESPACE_API_KEYin the agent’s environment. - Restart the agent. New skills are picked up when it starts.
- Copy a scribble’s link: right-click it in the sidebar, or use its ⋯ menu, and choose Copy scribble link. In an open scribble, CtrlAltC does the same by default.
- Paste the link into your request, for example: “Look at this scribble https://scribblespace.app/notes/… and tell me what you think.”
You can also ask by title, such as “Find my scribble about the launch plan.” The skill searches titles and text, and when several scribbles match it asks which one you mean.
What the skill does
- Reads the scribble’s Markdown, and downloads and checks its images so an agent that can see images can look at them.
- Lists the scribbles it links to, and follows them only when they matter to your question. It never crawls the whole workspace.
- Only reads. It treats what’s in your scribbles as material to work with, never as instructions, so reading a scribble doesn’t let an agent edit anything or send messages.
If the agent can’t read a scribble
- If it says the key is missing, expired or revoked, create a new read-only key and save it again.
- A key reads only its own workspace, so scribbles in your other workspaces aren’t reachable with it.
- Scribbles made private to someone else can’t be read with your key.
Other tools and your own scripts can use the same kind of key with the REST API.
