How syncing works
Scribblespace saves every change on your device first, so writing never waits for the internet. When you’re connected, the change travels to Scribblespace over an encrypted connection and is stored there before it counts as synced. Your other devices and your teammates get it in moments.
What syncs
- A notebook syncs as one: its scribbles, drawings and images. The first time you open a notebook on a device, the whole notebook downloads, so you can read it offline afterwards.
- Notebooks sync while they’re open, in the sidebar or in a tab. Others catch up the next time you open them, downloading only what changed.
- Your theme and colors follow your account to every device.
Check the sync status
Open Settings (Ctrl,) and look at the top of the General tab. It shows the open notebook’s status and, if any, how many changes are waiting to sync.
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| All changes synced | Everything on this device is stored on Scribblespace. |
| Syncing… | Changes are on their way, in either direction. |
| Saving locally… | Your latest edits are being written to this device. |
| Offline · saved here | No connection. Your changes are safe on this device and sync when you reconnect. |
| Sync at capacity · saved here | The sync service is busy. Your changes are safe here and sync when it retries. |
| Images waiting to sync | Some images haven’t uploaded or downloaded yet. |
| Sync paused | You paused sync. Click Resume sync to continue. |
| Waiting for first sync | This notebook hasn’t finished downloading to this device yet. |
| Sync needs attention or Sync storage full | Sync stopped and won’t retry by itself. See Fix sync problems. |
| Storage error | This device couldn’t save. Export a backup right away and see Fix sync problems. |
Pause and resume
In Settings, on the General tab, Pause sync stops sending and receiving changes for the open notebook. You can keep writing; everything stays on this device until you click Resume sync.
