Roles and what each one can do
Everyone in a workspace has one role, and it applies to every notebook in that workspace. Owners and admins run the team, editors write, and viewers read. Viewers are free on every plan.

Each workspace has exactly one owner, who can’t be removed or demoted. Viewers see a View only badge on notebooks and scribbles, and can still search, read and export what they can open.
Change someone’s role
- Open Team in the sidebar.
- Under Members, find the person and choose a new role from the menu beside their name.
The change takes effect right away, including on devices they already have open. Turning a viewer into an editor or admin may need a free seat on your plan.
Transfer ownership
- Open Settings and choose the Workspace tab.
- Under Transfer ownership, choose the new owner. They must already be a member.
- Click Transfer, then confirm with Transfer ownership.
Private scribbles override roles
A scribble someone has made private can only be opened by them and the people they added. That includes owners and admins. See Share a scribble.
