Import notes from other apps

Scribblespace imports Markdown (.md) and plain text (.txt) files, and ZIPs exported from Scribblespace. Most note apps can save or export notes as Markdown files, which you can then bring in.

Import a Markdown file

  1. Open the notebook you want the note in. You need to be able to edit it.
  2. Press CtrlO, or open Settings and, under Your data, click Import Markdown or ZIP. On a notebook’s page, Import a file does the same.
  3. Choose the file.

The file becomes a new scribble, named after the file, in the open notebook. Files can be up to 1 MiB, and you import them one at a time.

Restore a Scribblespace ZIP

Import a ZIP made with Export your data the same way. Scribblespace shows what’s inside; click Import ZIP to restore it.

  • The notebooks go into new workspaces visible only to you, with their folders, dates, images and editable drawings.
  • Private scribbles stay private. Public links and other people’s access aren’t switched back on.
  • You need a connection to restore a ZIP. If it stops partway, what’s already restored is kept; click Continue import to pick up where it left off.
  • A ZIP can be up to 1 GiB and 25,000 files.
  • Only ZIPs exported by Scribblespace work. For a ZIP from another app, unpack it and import the Markdown files.
  • Older JSON backups from Scribblespace can still be imported into the open notebook.
