ScribblespaceOpen app

Work with tabs and split panes

Scribbles open in tabs, and you can split the editor right or down to read one page while you write another. Press Ctrl\ to split right.

Tabs

  • Click a scribble in the sidebar to preview it. The preview tab is reused as you click through other scribbles, so tabs don’t pile up.
  • Double-click a scribble, double-click its preview tab or start editing it to keep the tab open. CtrlAltP does the same.
  • Close a tab with its ×, a middle-click or CtrlAltX. Reopen closed tab in the command palette brings it back.
  • + in the tab bar (New tab) starts a new scribble.
  • Right-click a tab for Keep tab open, Split vertically, Split horizontally, Close tab, Close pane and Keep only this pane.

Split the editor

  • Click Split editor right in the tab bar, or press Ctrl\ (right) or CtrlAlt\ (down).
  • Drag a tab to the edge of a pane to split it there, or to the middle of another pane to move it.
  • Choose Open to the side from a scribble’s ⋯ menu, or Alt-click a scribble in the sidebar.

You can have up to four panes. Drag the divider between them to resize; double-click it for equal sizes. To close a pane, click Close pane (×) at the end of its tab bar.

Move between panes

AltShiftH, AltShiftJ, AltShiftK and AltShiftL focus the pane to the left, below, above and right, and AltShift1 to AltShift4 jump to a pane by number. The full list:

App Works in the desktop app and the installed web app. In a browser tab, the browser keeps these keys for its own tabs.

Good to know

  • Your tabs and panes are remembered on this device and come back when you return.
  • Zen mode (AltZ) hides everything except the page in front of you. Esc leaves it.
  • On a phone you see one page at a time. Tap the title at the top to switch between open pages.
